Best Time to Send WhatsApp Marketing Messages (Data-Backed)

For most business messages, aim for late morning in your recipient's local time, roughly 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and keep anything non-urgent between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. their time. The largest public dataset we found, a 2026 benchmark of 11.8 million WhatsApp campaign messages, measured the highest click rate for campaigns sent at 10:00 (16.3%, against a 12.0% average) and, of the daytime hours it analyzed, the lowest at 18:00 (9.3%). Reminders and follow-ups follow different rules, and the time zone you plan in matters as much as the hour. Every statistic in this guide links to its source.

Sources and time zone dates checked in October 2026.

Best time to send WhatsApp marketing messages and broadcasts

Start at 10 a.m. in your customers' local time, or anywhere from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and treat the evening as something to test, not a default.

Chatarmin, a WhatsApp marketing platform for online stores, published a send-time benchmark covering campaign messages delivered between March 15 and June 1, 2026. The main findings:

  • Campaigns sent at 10:00 had a 16.3% click rate and brought in €1.60 in attributed revenue per delivered message, against a €1.08 average. 134 brands sent at that hour, more than at any other, with 1.74 million messages delivered.
  • Campaigns sent at 18:00 were the most common (2.03 million messages, 17.2% of all volume) but had the lowest click rate of any hour analyzed (7:00 to 20:00), 9.3%, and brought in €0.83 per message.
  • As a window, 10:00 to 13:59 produced €1.33 per message at a 14.1% click rate. 17:00 to 20:59 produced €0.92 at 10.3%.
  • Open rates stayed between 75.0% and 84.8% in every hour. Timing changed clicks and sales far more than whether people opened the message.

The report states its own limits: the sample is Chatarmin's customers and is not representative of e-commerce as a whole, times default to the Europe/Berlin zone when a campaign has none set, and the eleven weeks include several holidays. Its own advice to evening senders is to test 10:00 or the 12:00 to 13:59 window.

That is where the campaign data points. It measured campaign sends; for offers you send one chat at a time, use the same starting time and test it.

A few practical points:

  • Days: In the same benchmark, Sunday brought in the most per message (€1.40, against a €0.95 average for Monday to Friday), and Friday and Saturday were the weakest (€0.71 and €0.74). The authors warn that Easter Sunday, Mother's Day and Whit Sunday fell inside the window, so read the Sunday figure with caution.
  • Big sends take time. On Chatmaid Web, campaigns to a contact list are spaced out instead of going out all at once. Start early enough that the last message still lands inside your window.

Only send promotions to people who agreed to hear from you. WhatsApp restrictions are very unlikely with normal use, but they do happen when an account behaves like spam, such as sending unsolicited bulk messages to people who do not have your number saved.

Times to avoid

  • Late evening and overnight, roughly 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. in the recipient's time zone. Researchers in Israel collected WhatsApp metadata, with no message content, from 111 students aged 18 to 34, who sent and received 6,449,631 messages over an average of about 15 months (Rosenfeld et al., 2018). Only 4.36% of those messages were sent between midnight and 4 a.m., and 2.37% between 4 and 8 a.m. The 8 a.m. to noon block held 18.04%, and each of the three blocks from noon to midnight held roughly 25%. That is how 111 young adults used WhatsApp in their own chats, not how anyone reacts to businesses, but it shows how rare overnight messages are.
  • Brands rarely send overnight either. In the campaign benchmark, the hours from 21:00 to 06:59 made up just 2.7% of volume: brands mostly avoid them, so the benchmark has little data on how they perform.
  • A useful outer limit: the US federal telemarketing rule bars telephone solicitations to residential subscribers before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m., local time at the called party's location (47 CFR 64.1200(c)(1)). Whether it covers a given WhatsApp message is a legal question, but it is a sensible boundary for sales messages. Check the rules in the countries you sell to.

Best time to send WhatsApp reminders

Send appointment reminders about 24 hours ahead, during the recipient's daytime. In a 2026 analysis of 475,214 outpatient appointments in Buenos Aires's public health system (Esteban et al., medRxiv preprint), a single WhatsApp reminder about 24 hours before cut no-shows by about a quarter compared with no reminder (risk ratio 0.76). A single reminder 72 hours before did less (0.91), and sending both did no better than the day-before one alone (0.80). It is a preprint based on routine records, not a randomized trial.

An older meta-analysis of eight randomized SMS trials found that reminders raise attendance, and found no significant difference by how far ahead they were sent: 24, 48, or 72 or more hours (Guy et al., Health Services Research, 2012). Both point the same way: a reminder helps, and the day before is a safe default.

So:

  • Make the day-before reminder your default. Send it during your recipient's daytime and your opening hours, so anyone who needs to reschedule can reach you.
  • Add a reminder about 3 days ahead only for appointments booked weeks out (rule of thumb). In the Buenos Aires study, adding the earlier reminder did not improve attendance, but it led more patients to cancel ahead of time, which gives you a chance to refill the slot.
  • Send a short note 1 to 2 hours before for same-day calls or pickups that are easy to forget. This is a rule of thumb, not a measured result.

The easiest way to get this right is to schedule the reminder at the moment you book the appointment. WhatsApp appointment reminders: how clinics reduce no-shows covers the study in more detail. For wording, see 50 WhatsApp reminder message templates. For things that repeat, like weekly classes or monthly payments, use a recurring message as shown in how to schedule recurring WhatsApp messages.

Best time to send a follow-up

If the customer just messaged you, the best time is now. In the personal-chat study, 57.82% of messages were sent within one minute of the previous message in the conversation. If you answer while they are still in the chat, they are more likely to see it straight away.

If they went quiet (rules of thumb, not measured results):

  • Wait three to four business days after your last message, send one nudge, then at most one more a week later. After a quote, check in on day 2.
  • Send around the hour they last wrote to you. They have shown they are on WhatsApp at that time.
  • Write the follow-up while you have the context, then schedule it. You will not forget it, and it still arrives at a reasonable hour.

WhatsApp follow-up messages: 21 templates and when to send has wording and timing for quotes, unpaid invoices and post-purchase check-ins.

B2B vs B2C: does the timing change?

B2B: weekdays, during working hours in the client's time zone (rule of thumb). If you write in the evening, schedule it for 10 a.m. their time. Microsoft built the same idea into Outlook so after-hours messages "hit inboxes only when working hours resume" (Microsoft WorkLab). Leave weekends alone unless the client set that pattern.

B2C: late morning is the safest default, and evenings are a test. The campaign data favored 10:00 over 18:00, and the personal-chat data shows that afternoons and evenings are the busiest hours for personal chats. Sunday may work for consumers, as the benchmark suggests (Saturday was one of the weakest days), but test before you commit.

How often should a business send WhatsApp messages?

We found no public study that sets a safe number. WhatsApp's API rules show what it rewards. On the WhatsApp Business Platform (the official API), WhatsApp may limit how many marketing template messages a person receives from businesses. It takes into account that person's recent read rate for marketing messages and how many messages they already have from friends, family and businesses (Meta developer documentation). This limit applies to template messages sent through the API, not to messages from the WhatsApp app or Chatmaid Schedule, but it is a clear signal: WhatsApp itself treats unread marketing as a reason to deliver less of it.

Rules of thumb:

  • Match what you promised. If people signed up for a weekly offer, send one a week.
  • One reminder per appointment, plus an earlier one only for bookings made weeks out.
  • Space follow-ups out and stop after two or three with no reply.
  • Watch opt-outs. In the 11.8M-message benchmark, 0.34% of messages led to an opt-out. If "stop" replies or blocks rise after you add a send, cut back.

How to handle time zones

Always plan in the recipient's local time, then convert to yours. The catch in autumn and spring is that countries change their clocks on different dates. As of October 2026:

  • The UK and the EU end summer time on the last Sunday in October, which is October 25, 2026 (GOV.UK; for the EU rule, see the European Commission).
  • US daylight saving time ends on the first Sunday in November (15 U.S.C. 260a), which is November 1, 2026.

Here is what 10:00 a.m. for the recipient means on the sender's clock, calculated with the IANA time zone database:

Recipient (10:00 a.m. local)SenderSummer (late March to late October)Winter (November to mid-March)
New YorkLondon3:00 p.m.3:00 p.m.
LondonNew York5:00 a.m.5:00 a.m.
Mexico CityMadrid6:00 p.m.5:00 p.m.
BogotáMadrid5:00 p.m.4:00 p.m.
São PauloLisbon2:00 p.m.1:00 p.m.
MumbaiLondon5:30 a.m.4:30 a.m.
LondonDubai1:00 p.m.2:00 p.m.
Los AngelesNew York1:00 p.m.1:00 p.m.

In the gap weeks (October 25 to 31, 2026 and March 14 to 27, 2027), use the winter column, except New York and London, which are four hours apart then: 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The gaps exist because the US moves its clocks on different dates from Europe: back on November 1, 2026, and forward on March 14, 2027, while the UK and EU move forward on March 28, 2027.

How to schedule for the recipient's time zone with Chatmaid

Chatmaid Schedule sends WhatsApp messages from your own number at the time you choose. Messages go out from Chatmaid's cloud, so they are sent even if your phone is off, out of battery or offline. That is what makes a 5 a.m. send practical: you schedule it in the afternoon and sleep through it. More on that in how to send WhatsApp messages when your phone is off.

Before you start: install Chatmaid Schedule from the App Store or Google Play and link it under Linked Devices in WhatsApp, the same way WhatsApp Web links (first time only).

  1. Pick the arrival time in their time zone, for example Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in New York.
  2. Convert it to your own time. The time you pick in the app is on your phone's clock, so from London that Tuesday is 3:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. in the gap weeks).
  3. Select Contacts. Pick phone contacts, a WhatsApp group, or a number you have not saved from the Unsaved tab.
  4. Message. Write the message. You can add photos, videos, documents or a voice note, and use bold, italic or strikethrough.
  5. Date & Time. Leave it on One-time and set the converted date and time. For repeating messages, choose Recurring, then Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
  6. Confirm Schedule. Check the summary and tap Confirm Schedule. The message appears in the History tab, where you can open and edit it before it goes out.

One thing to watch with recurring messages: Chatmaid saves a recurring message's time as a fixed offset from UTC, taken from your phone when you set it up, so it does not follow clock changes. Because the time is pinned to UTC, the message keeps going out at the same moment worldwide. When your recipient's country changes its clocks, it arrives an hour earlier or later on their clock. When only your country changes, it still arrives on time for them, but it will look an hour off on your clock.

So after your recipient's clocks change, open each affected recurring message in the History tab, tap Edit Message and set the time again, converted from their local time. If you send to people in your own country, do this after each clock change. How to schedule recurring WhatsApp messages explains the same issue.

Chatmaid Schedule comes with a 7-day free trial with every feature and no credit card. After that, Premium is $2.79 a month; see pricing.

How to find your own best time

The studies above give you a starting point, not your answer. Your customers have their own routines, so test:

  1. Pick one message type, such as a weekly offer.
  2. Split your list into two random halves and send the same message to each half on the same day, one at 10:00 and one at 18:00 in their time zone. Repeat for four to six sends.
  3. Count replies, clicks or bookings for each half. Four to six sends is a rule of thumb; more sends give a clearer answer.
  4. Keep the winner, then test it against a new time.

Change one thing at a time. If you change the wording and the hour together, you will not know which one made the difference.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to send a WhatsApp marketing message or broadcast?

Late morning in your customers' local time. In a 2026 benchmark of 11.8 million campaign messages, 10:00 had the highest click rate (16.3%) and 18:00 the lowest of the daytime hours analyzed (9.3%). Open rates barely changed by hour (75.0% to 84.8%); timing mainly changed clicks and sales. Test against your own audience before you settle on a time.

What is the best day to send WhatsApp business messages?

For B2B, weekdays (rule of thumb). For consumers, the same benchmark found the most revenue per message on Sunday and the least on Friday and Saturday, but its window included several Sunday holidays, so treat that as something to test rather than a rule.

Is it OK to send a WhatsApp business message at night?

Avoid it unless the customer is actively chatting with you. Overnight messages are rare in personal WhatsApp use, and US telemarketing rules set 9 p.m. local time as the cutoff for sales calls. Schedule the message for the next morning instead.

What is the best time to post on WhatsApp Status or in a group?

We found no study that measures this. A Status update stays up for a day (WhatsApp says updates "disappear from view after 24 hours" on its Status page), so the exact hour matters less than for a chat message; posting in the morning gives it most of the day. For a group, use the same late-morning default and avoid 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. in members' time zone. Both are rules of thumb.

Does Chatmaid adjust for my recipient's time zone automatically?

No. You set the date and time on your phone's clock, so convert the recipient's local time to yours when you schedule it. Recurring messages keep the UTC offset your phone had when you set them, so check them when your recipient's clocks change.

Can WhatsApp itself send a message at a set time?

Only for some beta testers, as of October 22, 2026: on Android since October 12 (WABetaInfo) and on iPhone through TestFlight since October 22 (WABetaInfo). It is not in the regular app yet. You pick a time from 10 minutes to two weeks ahead, each scheduled message carries at most one photo or video, and the beta reports describe no repeat option.
